As long as a tree is young and healthy, it doesn’t require much attention or care. However, old, overgrown, sprawling, or diseased trees need regular inspections, which may result in the need for pruning or complete removal.
Tree Pruning
This work involves the removal of unnecessary branches. The difference between crown reduction and regular pruning is that a significant number of branches are removed at once, and sometimes, for radical rejuvenation of the tree, they are almost entirely removed.
Tree Removal
First and foremost, it is essential to remember that tree felling must be coordinated with local authorities and the necessary permits must be obtained to authorize this activity.
Some situations where it becomes necessary to remove a tree:
- if it has become very dilapidated and threatens to collapse during bad weather and strong winds;
- Trees hinder the construction of new buildings.;
- The tree has aged and lost its ornamental appeal and attractiveness.;
- Dead (dry) tree.
There is no definitive answer to the question of how much it costs to cut down a tree. It all depends on the complexity and labor intensity of the task.
The task is quick and straightforward if there is ample open space next to the tree being felled, allowing the trunk and crown to fall freely. In such cases, cutting down the tree takes only a few minutes. The main time is spent on clearing the trunk of branches, cutting it into manageable pieces for transport, loading it onto a vehicle, or storing it at a location specified by the client.
If there is a lack of free space and a risk of damaging nearby structures, the branches and trunk are cut down in stages. Each severed part is guided to a pre-selected area at the base of the tree using ropes, where it is then cut into smaller pieces and loaded into a vehicle.
In the most challenging situations, it becomes necessary to suspend the cut sections using cables. For instance, if a tree is hanging over structures, electrical wires, or utilities. In such cases, specialized lifting equipment is indispensable.
After removing a tree, the stump can be taken out immediately. However, this is not always necessary, as the remaining stump from the felled tree will gradually decompose over several years.

Stump Removal with a Tractor (Stump Grinder)
The tractor, equipped with a special grab, pulls the stump out of the ground, severing the roots. This is the simplest and quickest method, though it is not always the most convenient.
It is essential to ensure unobstructed access for heavy machinery to the work site. There should be no utilities running through the ground near the stump that could be damaged by the roots. After stump removal, a large hole remains, which must be filled with soil, leveled, and the damaged lawn restored.
Manual Stump Removal
This is the most gentle yet labor-intensive method: the stump is dug around, the roots are chopped or sawed off. The stump, thus freed, is then loaded onto a vehicle using winches or other available tools and taken away.
Manual stump removal is the only feasible method to eliminate a stump in a hard-to-reach area where machinery cannot access.
Stump Grinding
In this case, the stump is not completely removed: its upper part is ground down with a special cutter to a depth of 20–40 cm. The wood chips are cleared away, and the soil is leveled. The underground part of the stump and its root system remain and can interfere, for instance, with the installation of utilities. However, this is a quick and cost-effective way to tidy up the lawn on the property.
